WALL OF TEXT
Personally, I'd hate for weather to have that much of an effect on the game, regardless if it's pub or comp. Perhaps the problem with random lightning strikes is that there's really no way to counter those and they come without warning. Just an idea I'm throwing together in my head to possibly address those problems....
Scenario:
- A guy is flying.
- He sees a dark patch of cloud with lights flashing inside it (so he knows it's possible to get struck before entering)
- He flies into/under the patch of cloud.
- If he's flying too high, he'll get a lightning warning on his hud, seconds before the lightning strikes. (Maybe have a countdown... though that may remove more of the random element)
- He clears out of the lightning zone.
OR
- He flies low enough so lightning doesn't strike him (Flying low stops the lightning warning. Strikes the terrain instead)
OR
- he flies lower than other players in the area so they get struck instead of him.
OR
- He tosses a nade or shoots a projectile up so the lightning strikes that instead. (probably need countdown to time perfectly)
I think this scenario demonstrates a level of randomness I'd be more comfortable with. It is somewhat random, yet there's ways to counter certain situations and still maintain a part of fun from the random element.
