Massive Frame Rate Hits...ATI videocard problem?
« on: 10.08.09 | 11:36 PM »
I have been noticing massive frame rate drops that occur randomly when I am playing. They seem to happen more often now that I updated my drivers for my 4670 ATI videocard.

Was curious if any other ATI owners in here are experiencing the same problems. I can hardly play Tribes 1 and can't play Tribes 2 without errors...so I was thinking maybe the engines hate ATI cards...

My 4850 has no problems, still 330+ frames without any real droppage.

Hmm, maybe try rollbacking to your previous graphics driver to see if that corrects your issue.

Is that in Legions or Tribes?  I'm thinking that Arma was referring to his fps in Tribes, however if his 4850 is pulling those kinda FPS in Legions, I'm picking one up too.

Blah, that makes me want to be done my system all the sooner.  Also, mr Shooter16, don't be too alarmed by the difference in your FPS, his GPU is stronger, it's backed by a powerful processors and a huge amount of RAM.

I play Legions at about 10 fps all the time, don't see why anyone would want a value higher than 60.

You may have a crappy processor which is bottle necking your gpu. I have no idea what the hell the deal with this is, its getting really annoying. I'll be getting 70+ fps, then out of the blue it will drop to ~5fps then go back up. I am messing with drivers and settings so if I can figure it out I'll let you guys know.

Has it been happening on all servers or just the deds?  I've noticed lately that I'll receive a lag spike that'll cause my screen to become a slideshow.  At first I thought it was weird happenings going on with my ISP (and it could still very well be) but the problem vanished when I played on a user hosted server.

Are you behind a router TAA?

I've noticed that when I'm behind my router instead of directly connected to my cable modem, I have fps issues. Sad

You on a 32bit or 64bit box?

Does ATi have something similar to the nVidias PhysX?

I have a few games that require PhysX to be "Disabled", running it in those games crashes my system.  Cry

I actually am behind a router, although I did try testing in my own hosted server still with frame-rate issues.

I did reformat yesterday and the fps do seem smoother, I am also using the 9.1 catalyst drivers rather than the newest 9.9 ones. I am sure its a combo of both why the fps have improved.

And no, ATI cards do not have PhysX implementation.
