Chi-Ro: The Peace Keeper
although, i diagree with you saying that there is not "best player." I just think that the possition of best player changes so often that its hard to tell who it is all the time. There is also a difference between a person's reputation and a person's current skill. Players have good games, bad games, starting positions to deal with, others players to deal with as well. How a player deals with all these factors and takes advantage of these situations determines their skill and alters their reputation...
so i guess someone with the greatest reputation is known as the "best" but as i said earlier, reutation doesnt always equil skill... dammit chi, you beat me in an arguement without even saying anything.....

Wooo that was fun!
Sure someone could be better than the others and technically win more, but with the luck of a starting position and all the variables in the game that's no guarantee they'll ever win any given game. Or in other words they could easily lose to anyone around their same skill level just by the luck of the starting planets.
That being said rather than thinking of a “best” player I think of levels of players. That can be split up loads of different ways but the basics are newbie, mid-level, and pro or vet. There are quite a few in between but everyone can fall into one of these categories, and if you fight someone in the same group as you chances are it's going to be more about starting planets then skill.
Quick example, me and Teix had some 1 on 1s today. The first 6 to 8 or so we both won every other game depending on who had the better start. After that he got a few more good starts then me and ended up pulling ahead by a couple games. We weren't keeping score or anything but no matter what amount of planets or how many ships I put whoever had the best starting cluster would always win.
In my opinion Teix is actually a bit better at IA 1 on 1s then me, but at least in that set of games there were none close enough that I could say one of us really beat the other due to skill. So even if he was better there was no way to know for sure.
