Second.

My experience on the Snow shaz today only reinforced my earlier decision to implement a level requirement to unlock the sniper loadout once the experience system is in place.

Though I completely understand this thought ("don't let newbies snipe"), I'm not sure what to think of an experience system. I mainly like this game because I slowly get better, not the character I play.

Could we have further information on that?

And on topic: Teapot sounds nice and makes sense. I'll try to use it. Wink

The experience system is being employed in a few GG games on IA. In Legions you will get experience points at the end of a match for your participation. The system hasn't been fully fleshed out yet, but the basic idea is that you will level up and unlock things to ease new players into the game.

This isn't intended to be a long process, maybe a couple hours to hit the normal spectrum of gameplay options, but more so that level will be an easy way to measure experience with the game and offer a simple benchmark for easy matchmaking and server settings.

This is not a way to push things onto new players, it's just a way to help ensure that players at any experience level have public games that they can enjoy readily available to them. There would still be perfectly open public servers, but if a teapot logs on and clicks a "quick match" button, they would be placed in a game with teapots. Similarly, (if the system works out) an experienced player could log on and click the "quick match" button and be placed on a server with players of comparable experience. In both cases, it benefits both the teapots looking for a casual fight to potentially learn the ropes, and the more experienced players who want an organized game, aswell as anyone in between.

More details of the experience system will be revealed as it's developed.

Thanks a lot. And good luck with balancing the system! (How much points for which action, players that only play for exp, etc. etc.)

Sorry for the derailment of the thread.

That's the point.

also if you've tried battlefield heroes. it got a system where you level up. you don't get any points to make the character better (only trough missions you get that) but you gain levels and the servers you join will be adjusted to the level of the player.

i'm not saying to copy and paste it but a level display so you can see what the average level of the server is and what levels specific players are would greatly increase the chance to join a game with players at your own skill.

so the idea is that levelling won't make you better only you and your training will. but the level you gain while playing makes it easier to find players among your skill.

woof?

sorry for off-topic but i had to get that out of my system while munge is here :-)

oh and i can't see L2P there

L2P: Learn To Play

a term very used in WoW which tells the player targeted to go learn how to play the class/gun loadout/game and then come back. this can be both an insult and an advice like

"lol L2P"
which is an insult telling that the player saying it is better and the player the insult was directed to isn't as good

and

"you could go L2P in a private server"

can be used when advicing a newblood to start his own server set it to private and learn to do something like skiing for example.

woof.
