Want a few ideas?

Howdy folks.  I've been modding Tribes 1 over the years, and there are certain things that I think would benefit everyone.  If they aren't much trouble to work on, you might consider them for when deciding what to play with:

- ItemDatas being limited to an 8-bit index or something, severely limiting the amount of item types we can mod into the game to a relatively small set.

- Internal math goes to scientific notation after 1,000,000 which causes large numbers to lose precision.  Perhaps change it to normal 32-bit Ints or 64-bit Ints?

- Remove the black grid lines on the loading screen so that custom ones don't have it on top of them.

The following ones are probably a lot tougher and more along the lines of pipe dreams:

- Automatically pushing content to clients upon connect if custom content is required for them to play (like most games these days)

- Larger terrain support

- Modern model and prefab format support so we don't have to use WC 2.1 and 3DS Max R2?  =D

In any case, I hope you folks have fun with your new IP and related projects.  I wish you the best of luck.

I'm concerned about backward compatibility. I'm working on an enormous client side mod, and I know of at least one other in development. The notes about base code changes requiring changes to mods for compatibility has me concerned, as well as the viability of client side mods. Although that we will still be able to play without use of a browser makes me think that client side mods won't be hindered any more than they were by the game not downloading new content automatically.

All of these suggestions are great, Tbird, and I agree that they would benefit everyone. Larger terrain and an increased or virtually removed limit on the itemdatas (and other data block types, for that matter), for example, would greatly expand the possibilities for mods like RPG and derivatives thereof. Support for new model formats could lead to Tribes looking like a semi-modern game.

If I may add my own requests, more AI functions and a functional player::Jump() would be much desirable to have.
