Dedicated Servers
« on: 03.20.09 | 06:21 PM »
Hi!

Awesome news to hear this game is coming to IA.

I have a question regarding dedicated servers. Will they still be supported and made available for download?

If so, I want to know whether we need to be using any web browser to run a dedicated server (which would be bad) or whether the traditional command-line style server software will still be used.

Cheers

I just listened to the shoutcast, and zadmin was mentioned.

I think I remember trying to setup zadmin before to support multiple servers, but had difficulty (zadmin only had one config file, and you couldn't execute it per-server like the +cfg command line option).

Would this be corrected (or is this already supported and I just stuffed setting it up)?

Thanks Smiley

I just use separate installs to run each server. Easier to set up that way.

Yeh, that's exactly what I dont want to do.

From memory, zadmin has its own config file called zadmin.ini which is always read by the server (hard coded).

If we could just specify which file to execute on the command line (or through a server variable such as $Prefs::Zadmin::ConfigFile) then we can set it up to run on a per-server basis, right out of the same game install.

Multiple installs are a pain.
