I missed out. Or did i!
« on: 03.21.09 | 02:03 AM »
Well.

I'v had alot of people ask me if i used to play Tribes
I say NOZ!, But the truth is i'v had it for years. Never installed it.
I never even knew it was there. It was my dads.
So, Is it better then legions and more addictive?
If so. Gah. Here comes 24/7 Gaming Time ;(
Also, I would like to test tribes in the Closed Beta if there will be one.

Better than legions? Definitely. Legions has nothing on Tribes.

If you're wanting to find out how Tribes plays, check out this pretty long movie (one of the best made):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2et3cKlSSk
(also check out part 2 + 3)

Here a gameplay video that I found which show off some of the action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k9bjqwvez8

What you don't see a lot of is the Heavy Offence attacks (going heavy, using the green mortar gun), laying out turrets, deploying equipment for your team to use, ...

Here's a Tribes 2 promo video for comparison on the sequel:

And a gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDLtXeUWWWE&feature=related

If you're interested in playing Tribes now, you'll have to enter in a new master server address by doing the following:

Start up Tribes(duh)
Click on the Options tab at the top left.
Click on the Network section.
Click Add
For name you can put anything really.  I just have it named 'new'
For the address enter in 216.249.100.66:28000

And that's it.  Just make sure you have the new server selected before trying to join a game(simply clicking on it will select it).  See you on the battlefield, newblood!

I would try both Tribes and Tribes 2 out. Personally I loved T1, but Tribes 2 grew on me and now I prefer it. I think T2 offers far more roles and options for all types of players so they can get involved in the game.

Legions right now is not a bad game. Currently though, it plays like Tribes LT. Tribes LT was a variant of Tribes that focused on diminishing a lot of the tactical asset aspects of the game. So basically folks playing LT didn't really utilize the deployables, vehicles, inventories stations etc. People would play light armour and just play man on man with the core weapons. Its a fun gametype and popular in competition, but it also diminished a lot of the tactical roles in Tribes base gameplay.

For new people to Tribes I think you'd have more fun playing in a non LT server. Also Tribes 1 is obviously the older game so it will look a bit more dated then Tribes 2. I recommend trying out Tribes 2 by using TribesNext here.

You'll be able to play Tribes 1 soon enough through IA and it will all be nicely configured for you. If you want to try Tribes 1 now you can download here

T1 gameplay Legeacy Pt3 had some amazing grabs in it

But T1 may require tweaking around with some scripts to get things right.

I agree with rougey here legions is still in beta and there's still a lot of things Derek and friends are working on and i do think that legions will surpass tribes in the near future but that doesn't mean ill stop playing tribes. so don't make base assumptions in till legions is out of beta.  Wink
