You're not going to win this one, WarriorX. The Tribes community is incredibly stubborn and opinionated. We're also some of the most die hard fans that have ever existed. Now while some preferred T1 over T2 and vice versa, both groups tend to agree that T:V was not on par with either of the original two.

Personally I was a T1 player. I owned all games (except T:AA) and played the first two an embarrassing amount. The third one I could never really get into. I'm not saying T:V was a bad game, it had problems but it also had potential. However, as Rougey stated, "it just wasn't Tribes good."

lol I don't understand how you t2 players can bare the skiing on there. The skiing in T:V on the other hand is a lot smoother and you can go way faster. Especially with the grappler.

I'm not sure when you entered the Tribes scene, but many of us still prefer the feel of skiing in the original. I mentioned this to Gheist the other day saying how I prefer skiing in Tribes to that of Legions, and I personally consider the skiing in Legions to be better than that of the skiing implementation in T:V. I don't know why I prefer it, but it just feels much better than it did in T:V. I believe Gheist equated it to moving through jello, heh.

By the way, thanks for the link, shaolinmonk. That thread brought back a lot of old memories.

Mal is one of the GA folk, whom I enjoy a good buckler fight with.

Even if he is a goddamn bogan.

And GA is always better than all the other T:V servers, mother*dancers*.

I know I won't win this one, but I'm just trying to stick up for a game that I enjoyed playing for over 5 years (and going) since everyone else here are just trying to flame it. What's even more disgusting is that some people even want to overwrite it lol (make a new tribes game naming it Tribes 3 instead of 4).  Smiley

I'm sure you t1/2 players have your thoughts and opinions about which game is better... But really, if you don't like Tribes Vengeance, then don't ruin it for the newbies. I'm sure they would rather enjoy a free cap route with frictionless skis on T:V better than having to do a bunch of *chocolate cookie* before even being able to cap on t2. Smiley

You can download tribes and all of its many mods on www.tribesvdl.com btw.

I enjoyed T2, quite a lot. Grabbing a bomber, crashing it into the enemy base and then raping the *chocolate cookie* out of that base was a source of countless hours of fun on it's own. But there was something about T:V that really got me into it. Whatever it was, it made me feel like the game could've gone somewhere. It's a shame to see that it's nearly deserted, but there's no point crying about it.

Quote
I feel like T:V deviated enough from Tribes for it to not really be considered Tribes 3.  Unfortunately, Legions will not be Tribes 3 either.

Agreed.

FYI, T:V was NOT officially a "T3".  T:V was officially a "prequel".

This was what we in the closed beta of T:V were told when we pointed out things that were wrong, missing, etc. from the game.

What we did want back then was a game that would be built on top of the existing TRIBES universe.  We certainly didn't agree exactly how, but we sure didn't want the entirely different game that we got.

T:V was a failure of such stunning magnitude that it nearly killed TRIBES forever.  I doubt that anyone would try to build from it moving forward.  THAT is what is meant by "forget it ever existed."

I think people need to learn to distinguish what the game was and how it played.

How the game played...
-Some moments of greatness
-It was most modern and playable Tribes for noobs

What the game was...
1.Abandonware on release
2.Built on a third rate/wrong game engine
3.Riddled with balance issues eg. Grappler and Pod Fighter overpowered, Tank and Heavy Armour too weak, Asymmetry of base design etc etc etc
4.Never going to be fixed

The game had some potential and could have been patched up but Vivendi, *dance*holes that they are, screwed the game before they even released it. I will never forget what they did to the game and I make a point of never spending another penny on one of their releases. I view Vivendi with the same distain as car thieves and heroin addicts; they are out for themselves and *dance* anyone else.

Do not look at Tribes: Vengeance through rose tinted glasses, let it die (or rather don't dig it up again).

We already have the perfect Tribes, it's just the graphics that look old and tired. PlayTribes will unlock the opportunity to change all that. We will be able to take tried and tested gameplay that works and give it a colourful modern high-res appearance. These days people will play crap games if they look pretty, PlayTribes with great graphics will blow their tiny minds.

The problem with this is (as others have pointed out), T:V was not a true sequel to T2 so referring to it as T3 because it was the third Tribes game (which still isn't correct because technically Tribes: Aerial Assault was) is incorrect. In fact, think of it like the GTA series going by this logic GTA IV would have been named GTA XI (if you count the various expansions and hand-held versions as well). The point is there is plenty of room for a true sequel set sometime after the events and time period of T2 without "overwriting" T:V.

I really don't understand the debate here , T1 , T2 , T:V .... all fun games.

Give a *chocolate cookie* if T:V isn't consistant with the previous games , it's still awesome to play.

So tired of people complaining about how it's a break away from the series , if you like it then jump in with me and have some games ....... if it doesn't tickle your fancy then PO and play 1 of the others.

If there is any way of possibly relaunching this game and getting some support around it .... I'm there.

BTW , the TVDL site and this blogger and both hosted by me .... thats gotta mean something about me being serious in keeping this game alive.

I may be a boggan Rouge but at least I can handle my booze lol

Hows it hanging anyway mate , get on T:V would ya more often and I may check out Legions with ya.

It does mean something, I'm impressed. I think you are unlikely to defect to PlayTribes, but once it's released if you decide to do some hi-res skins for the game I'm sure your input would be welcomed. Smiley

Is anything going to happen to T:V. I don't want the only good tribes game to turn into a browser game.

I've not only created player skins I've also progressed into a fairly decent mapper as well , I'm going to progress with this idea of keeping this game going I think.

More too come

Despite the varied degree of dislike for Mal in the TeeVee community, ranging from:
"He’s an Arsehole"
Right on through to
"He's a *dancing* Fruitloop I’ll stab the *sprinkle* if I ever get a chance"

Everyone agrees that he does a damn good skin.
