I gave t2 a go, I gave t1 a go. I gave fallen empire legions a go. I got bored of fel after a maximum of 1 and half months of playing it.

Legions lacks all the qualities of the typical FPS. It's gameplay sucks, and the fact that it's so anti-typical FPS, it's replay value is non-existent. User-input is completely disregarded, instead you get some piece of *chocolate cookie* that's 'NOT TRIBES'. Okay, we get it, it's not Tribes, thankfully, because the game *dancing* sucks.

Legions as it is, is rather simplistic. I hope that it will evolve into something more complex because at the moment it has about as much depth as budget toilet paper.

There's definite potential for more actual game, right now it feels like a stripped down proof of concept. Yes, it works. We get it. Now giev moar!

I think the big thing holding Legions back is IA preventing people from modding it(well, people do mod but it isn't nearly as open as it could be).

yeh theres no water volume, ragdoll physics, collision physics, or anything that Tribes Vengeance had.

I'm sure now that they have their rights to the game code, they could add vehicles and deployables and *chocolate cookie*.

Munge has said time and time again, this is true and more will come.

I think Legions is suffering from what I would have done as per game development; giving people early access to a polished version. I know it would get you some feedback, but the time spent on that polish severely halts your development speed. A CBT crowd might have been more effective; without any OB crowd.

I should not do this... Lips sealed

I played all of them in thier hey-day, and I love them all.

Warrior T2 was diffenetly A LOT deeper in every respect.

T:V IS pretier, and smoother BY FAR.

I once heard T1 described as a mirical mistake.
I think that is as close to the truth as any one well ever get.
The game most of us loved as Tribes 1 is not what was intended when Starsiege Tribes was created.
NOT BY A LONG SHOT!

I don't guess many would remember this but there was a time when the D on any given team on alot maps would have time to play tetrus while waiting for the oposing teams O to get across the battle field, and set up for there attack.

I actualy recal getting kicked from servers for running jump.cs (don't ask. if you don't know you don't need to...).

My point gents is that like so many things Tribes was/is what you make of it.
Unfortunately we have made it a haven for cheaters, misfits, and malcontents.
I wish with all that is in me that this last was a bold faced lie, but it isn't.
And so I no longer play the only video game I ever had a true love afair with...

Oh for the days when there were 1000's playing tribes at any given time of the day or night.
When guilds with multipule clans that combined had hundreds of members, and multipule servers with leaders that lived to take the hand of noob's, and teach them to be hounerable worriors.(or the average player, and show them how to be a star! Cool )

But this has LONG since seased to be the case...
Now all that is left is a bunch of wannabies, could of beens, and has beens.
Remonising about, the glorie days, and bashing any one with any spark of enthooseasim in the head..., or cheating them out of an honest game tell all they can think to do is start cheating too...

Bah I digress...
What is this new T1 remake, is there a link?, What is tribes next?, What is this I hear about a new MOD for T:V...
AND MOST OF ALL where can an old capper find a good game on a weekend night?

[...] What is this new T1 remake, is there a link? [...]
www.PlayTribes.com, not yet released to the public. And it's not really a remake, it's more of an re-release with some bugfixes and additions. But it's still T1 through and through.
[...] What is tribes next? [...]
www.TribesNext.com, providing a way to play T2 on the net, for free. Full download, multiplayer support, master servers, everything.
[...] AND MOST OF ALL where can an old capper find a good game on a weekend night? [...]
Try T1/T2, or have a closer look at Fallen Empire: Legions. Especially if you are/have been a capper.

Now why does this seem a familiar topic? -.-

Mreh. A fair whack of T:v multiplayer certainly screwed the pooch. However, personally, I adored the movement (including the grappler), which has yet to be bettered (again, for me) in any other game. I also enjoyed the flag passing and most of the combat (some weapons were just shitteh).

Vanilla T:v sucked a serious amount of arse, but the tweaked version that kept me entertained for four years is still, for me, a gameplay experience unlike any other.

I'm going to guess that a lot of T1 and T2 players would say the same of their own experiences in those games.

I wandered through my local babbages and was like what is this?  Turned the box over "No way it has jetpacks?!"

Took it home and I was blown away.  Played Tribes nearly every day until Giants: CK came out.  Playing as the smiley faced mercs was fairly similar to playing tribes.... and thought the universe was fun.  Jetting and hitting the nitro really made me crave a new tribes.  The the trailer for tribes 2 came out... and I played that till the master server died.  I was even in the competition scene with a clan called the Galactic Chickens lol.

The point of this story is to enlighten you guys to the fact that I was a serious tribes fan.

I pre-ordered T:V.  I love that game... PERIOD.  I loved the passive and active abilities on the packs... the new skiing model (I was also in the private beta for T:V when the skiing was broken.)  The buckler..... the redesign of the energy pistol.... the new disc launcher.  The only thing I really hated was how you couldn't go "out of bounds" and how there were no "Large" maps... consequently there was a smaller selection of vehicles.  I like the Pod, I thought it was more useful than a Shrike ever could be.... just that it was too slow... and plainly all the vehicles looked ugly.  Why they took away all the nifty hovering and added wheels to all the land vehicles I'll never understand.... but plainly.... it did what it was supposed to do.

You guy do remember "Tribes: Fast Attack" right?  It was Tribes 3, being developed by dynamix..... then they went under.  Fast attack's synopsis is this:

"Tribes Fast Attack was to be a compilation of two separate products in one package: Fast Attack and an updated version of Tribes 2. The new version of Tribes 2 offered two new and exclusive mods called Team Rabbit 2 and Competition Mod, while Fast Attack offered a gameplay experience inspired by Tribes 2 for the PlayStation 2 (developed by Inevitable Entertainment), which is designed for smaller teams and offers a pretty in-depth single player campaign (something Tribes players have been asking for for a very long time)." - IGN.

So that's exactly what T:V was, and they re-released tribes 2 for free shortly after on file planet.

Everything about T:V was better when it game to player movement & combat.  Where it failed was removing player choices and scope.  Had that game had Katabatic in it with fast vehicles and 10 packs instead of 4... non "deployable" mines and different off hand grenade types it would have been held in the highest regard as the best Tribes game ever made.

The sad part is Sierra was running out of money, so they had no advertising and was then bought by Vivendi who made the decision to drop the price instead of actually advertising (the game dropped from full price to $9.99 in under a month from release at all retailers.)  Citing poor sales they decided to pull all support for the title all together.

The game was troubled from the beginning... but the game was not bad.  I hear all these people saying it was the worst tribes game ever.... but it was really nearly the same only with better movement and a focus on smaller faster battles.

People need to quit with all the hate... or hate in the proper manner.

Saying T:V sucks isn't the proper manner.... Explaining why it "sucks" is.

-No functional command map
-Smaller maps
-Less packs
-Less vehicles
-Only 32 players (as opposed to some of tribes 2's 128 player servers)
-The grappling hook  (it made CTF a stalemate with a light with the energy pack and G-hook)  In order for the hook to work it would have had to replace the Jet Pack IMO.
-No different grenade types
-Less deployables

+Better movement and faster skiing
+Better redesigns for Heavy Armors (over all statistics not artistic direction)
+Single Player Campaign
+Better graphics
+MUCH superior net code
+New innovative weapons such as the buckler.

I mean seriously... Pro's vs Con's.... I'm pretty sure the Pro's out weigh the con's for EVERYONE who enjoyed playing "Duel" mode in the previous tribes games.

//fails to see how it was this mega turd of a game.... what I DO see is a failed publisher running out of funds and a bad decision by new publisher to cut cost instead of advertising.... which resulted in no further support.

Had dev gone smoothly... we would have probably seen many patches to come and maybe even an expansion pack and a Tribes 4.  It's Vivendi's fault and no one else's.

Tribes player for life..... since day 18. (That day I was wondering in babbage's back in 98' was 18 days after release.)

Oh and by the way... T:V was received better by critics than ANY of the previous tribes/starseige/earthseige games, pulling in the best reviews of the series.

Ex:

Gamespot 8.5 Tribes 2
         8.8 Tribes: Vengaence

And a player review.

So ........ if you are a motivated person like myself that can create content for T:V and learns quickly at anything if shown well , how do we give T:V a shot of adrenaline and re-release it.

Why can't it even simply be made into a cover disk for some magazine ...... if anyone out there can assist me with this idea I'm certainly up for the challenge.

+Better movement and faster skiing Faster does not equal better.
+Better redesigns for Heavy Armors (over all statistics not artistic direction)
+Single Player Campaign Who cares about this seriously? Tribes has always been for the multiplayer.
+Better graphics Some aspects were pretty, others were ugly like the art. Everything was way too colorful.
+MUCH superior net code There is a reason servers were limited to 32 players...the netcode for Vengeance is abysmal.
+New innovative weapons such as the buckler. Overpowered.
