Why do you want tribes, again?

In my opinion, a large part of the appeal to Tribes 1 was the huge degree of modability and the fact that you didn't have to download any of these things to play the mods. Skilled modders made clever use of existing game materials to create new things, and the huge variety of mods kept everything fresh. I think if Tribes 1 was just base and nothing but base it would never have had the following it did, nor the retention of players. With all the sequels, I feel like the creators lost sight of the fact that the mods pretty much made Tribes 1 what it was and instead they focused on redoing base, which was not what people played the original for.

So for that reason, I really do think a simple Tribes 1 remake with enhanced graphics would be ideal, but that won't happen for a number of reasons (technical and otherwise). One thing I've noticed, though, is that depth perception was never really an issue in tribes despite the huge map sizes, but it continues to be a problem in newer graphical engines. So I do wonder if the FPS+Z format, at least in a large open areas, is even feasible with newer graphics.

UGH i've noticed that. I cant get depth right in legions if my life depended on it... Nor can I in most new games. The only ones i've been able to do REALLY well with have been Crysis, and Far Cry 2..
